Mount Royal School At Mount Royal we believe that imagination inspires the love of learning.  Our theme this year is “Journey of the Sole”.  One of the first major milestone’s in everyone’s life is taking their first step.  We celebrate this moment as significant because it is a clear and positive sign of development.  The notion of taking steps permeates our lives from that moment on – we sometimes take ‘baby steps’, others have taken ‘historical steps’ as in the case of “one small step for man, one giant step for mankind”, we ‘step out of our comfort zone’ or we ‘step up to bat’, and we ‘step in time’.   Metaphorically speaking, we have all been asked to ‘walk a mile in someone else’s shoes’ or to try to ‘fill someone else’s shoes.’  In education and in the arts, we are constantly on a journey for knowledge, experience and creative approaches for answers to our imaginings. During the 2008-2009 school year, the students at both Mount Royal and Virginia Park School are stepping out together on a Journey of the Sole.  This school wide theme will focus our learning as we look beyond ourselves in order to get to know ourselves better.  Our students and staff will enjoy many opportunities for collaboration throughout the year and we hope that there will be meaningful connections created for our parent community as well.  In our school newsletter each month we will feature a different class.  This provides you with a glimpse at the great things that students are doing during teaching-learning experiences.  We feel privileged to spend our days teaching and learning with your children and appreciate your ongoing interest and positive support.  You are your child’s first and most influential teacher and we are proud to be partners with you on their learning journey.  We look forward to an exciting and rewarding year.
