Academic Focus

At Mount Royal School we believe that all students can be successful.  With a strong academic focus we are preparing children for success in the future.
Provincial Achievement Test Results
On the 2007 tests our grade three students demonstrated a level of achievement well above the provincial average.  In Language Arts 100% and Mathematics 80% of our students meet or exceeded the acceptable standard. In grade six we continue to have possitive result.  The following is the percentage of students who have met or exceeded the acceptable standard on the 2007 provincial achievement tests in grade six:  Language Arts 72%, Mathematics 83%, Social Studies 72% and Science 78%.

Instructional Focus
A coordinated whole school effort to have all Mount Royal students show measurable growth in their ability to think critically.  This will be accomplished through setting criteria, student goal setting and applying higher order thinking strategies.  Progress will be measured by using a school designed assessment, district Highest Level of Achievment Tests, and provincial achievement tests.

Progress Reports
We believe that for children to be successful there needs to be excellent communication between the home and school.  With each progress report parents are invited to assess their child’s strengths and future growth.  In October parents and children are invited to attend a interview where the child first shares their work and then discusses progress and sets goals together with the teacher.  This is an important part as both parent and child have an opportunity decide on the "next steps" and set goals. Progress reports will be issued in early December.  In January students share their research projects with their parents.  This is a valuable experience as students show, discuss, and parents can observe how their child is capable of combining information in to a project.
